This Sunday, we’ll perform a concert with the RT trio in Breda. The Jazz Ten Toon Foundation organized an exposition together with the Breda Jazz Festival about the trombone. Eight days with some amazing trombone-concerts, with installations by Godfried-Willem Raes, poetry by Kila&Babsie, an Urbie Green Collection, and even graffiti-artists…

The RTtrio will open this exposition together with special guest Martijn Sohier: lead trombone player at the Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw and Dutch Jazz Orchestra. I’m currently composing some new tunes which we’ll perform this sunday. For more info about this venue: see Jazz Ten Toon
I’m honoured to be playing on this years opening of the National Celebration of the Liberation. The opening will take place at the Grote Kerk in Breda with a lecture by Joachim Gauck (the current President of Germany) which will be attended by Crown Prince Willem Alexander as well as Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Some amazing Dutch artist like Guus Meewis, Gerard van Maasakkers and Seth Gaaikema will also be performing here.
Today, the final rehearsals will take place. I’ll be playing two compositions written by Erik Vlasblom and Jan Beuving, together with the Fontys Jazz Choir. The lecture and concert will be broadcast on national television.
With Melphi, we played during an evening program called L’Avventura. This is a great concept in which the audience visits multiple shows on multiple locations. A theatre, dance or circusperformance in Theatre De NWE Vorst, a concert in jazzclub Paradox and a audiovisual show in Ruimte-X. The show sold out, so the Paradox was packed! Because it’s a new audience and not just the Melphi-fanbase, it was great to experience when the audience thawed halfway during the concert.
